NHL Playoffs are too long

I think that NHL playoffs are way too long. They go 7 games every series even starting in the first round. This makes playoffs for the NHL start like April 10 and wont get over until the end of May or even the beginning of June. This makes everyone wait for too long for them to determine a champion team. I think that the best out of 7 games is just too long of a series. It is extremely hard in sports to beat a team three times, this is asking them to win for four games. When there are close match ups the games will often be equal and have to go to a 7th game to determine who moves on and who goes home. I believe that if the playoffs were shortened up then it would help to truly determine the true top team. Like baseball, the first round starts out with a 5 game series then moves to 7. I think hockey should do the same thing.

Shuttle Bus at IC

Recently I was reading a proposal written by one of our students that says we should implement a shuttle bus system. I agree with this because even though i live at Towers, it would be an awful walk from terraces or circles. Kids dont like to walk from these far locations so to avoid it they usually hop in their car and drive to class. This forces them to find parking which is often very difficult and then making them late for class. This would also help bring down the amount of students at school with their cars. RTight now there are alot of kids with thir cars and they wouldnt bring them to school if there was a shuttle bus. The shuttle bus would also help with the carbon dioxide emission problem, that is horrible.

Mariokart= Great Game

Yesterday I heard someone say that he hated mariokart, and that it was not a well designed game. This got me kind of heated because mariokart was the first video game I had ever owned and I love it. I started debating with this kid because I believe it is one of the greatest games ever created. It is alot of fun when you can play four player, and be able to play against eachother for a race or something else. There are not a lot of newer systems coming out that allow four players to play against eachother. The PS3 only allows two players, the xbox 360 does allow four players but they dont have that many games that offer the four player option. Even though the nintendo 64 is older and doesnt have as good graphics, it is still a classic and mariokart is one of the greatest games.

I am not a fan of Homerconnect

I do not really like the idea of scheduling classes at 7:00 in the morning on Homer-connect. I know that the starting time could not have been anytime after because students would have class so I understand that however, I think that because we use the internet to do it kids don't get into the classes very easily. This morning I spent an hour and a half trying to get into the classes I had planned and scheduled to take but homer connect kept logging me off and on and I ended up with only 2 or 3 classes. When we have so many people throughout the whole campus trying to add classes on the internet, things are going to be messed up and working slow. This is what happened to me and now I have to run around campus looking for teachers in order to override a class. I do not like how this is all over the internet.

Public Safety Comment

Last night I was just sitting in my room watching the Detroit Red Wings get their first victory in their series with the Nashville Predators. After watching the game I turned on some music and it could not have been more than four minutes that there was a SASP or night RA on duty that knocked on my door. I think that the people on duty do not give you a chance to turn the music down at all. They claimed that they heard my music playing for a little while. I knew that I had not had my music on for that long but I didn't really feel like arguing with them. I believe that SASPS just try to get kids in trouble, they look for reasons to get kids caught. Its like they have contests at night to get the most write-ups every night. I wish that the people on duty at night would ease up a little, realize that we are all college students, we are not going to bed at around 11 it was.

Response to Waimon's Post

In response to Waimon's post about where our tuition is going, I agree with her statements. I agree with the fact that the new business building was designed and constructed within a reasonable amount of time, 12-16 months. I also dont understand that if we can do that within a year or a year and a half, how come the wireless networking is taking so long. There are many schools that have lower tuitions than us and they all have wireless internet connection everywhere on campus. Also while I am a huge sports fan and loves sports, I also agree that we are spending too much money on the athletic centers. Especially if we are planning to build a new athletic center in the near future. I think that the tuition is too high and that our money is going somewhere that isnt as relevant as we think.

Why Bosses are always right

I hate the fact that your boss is always right. I came into work last friday and I was speaking with my boss about possibly taking an extra shift on Monday, I told her that I could probably do it but then she never told me if I had the shift. I am a delivery guy and right after we discussed possibly filling in for the position on Monday, I went out on a delivery. When I came back to the store my boss was gone and left the shift on Monday still up in the air in my opinion. I hate the fact that if I wer to confront my boss about this I know I wouldnt be right, there would be no point. Just because I am scared of getting fired,I dont want to speak my mind with her. I know she didnt mean to screw me over, because now I have to go work, but she still will never realize that it was unfair what she did.

2008 NCAA Tournament

Who is going to be that ast team standing in this long tournament? There are many people in the country that believe North Carolina has the ability to win it all this year. I agree with this statement, they have the right group of kids and they can play the full 40 minute game. There is another team that has the capability to win it and that is Memphis. The only problem I have noticed with Memphis is that their free throw shooting is awful. Sometimes close games come down to if you can make a free throw or not. I have seen Memphis lose around 20 points per game in just missed free throws. I beleive that if you want to continue on in this tournament, making free throws is one of the top priorities. I think that both of these teams can advance pretty far and might see eachother in the final game, but only if Memphis starts hitting their free throws.

The Freshman Parking Lot, and Traffic Services

I believe that the freshman parking lot is located way too far away from where people live on campus. The walk down to the lot to get my car here at school sucks. It is a very long walk that can be avoided if the College just allowed students to park by their dorm room. Every time I come up to the lot there are always open spaces, and I hate the fact that I cant park up here. The traffic services also are extremely strict, I have recieved two tickets for having my car in the lot for not even 20 minutes. I just had to drop something off and unload my car and I got a ticket. When I try to appeal the ticket they say I cant park up there at all. I do not agree with this, I think it is unfair that I have to park my car in the freshman lot, especially when I need to unload soething. I think the traffic services need to ease up a little bit and that the school should start looking for an alternative for the current freshman lot.

Economy in a Recession?

Everyday I hear something new or another opinion going around about the economy being in or out of a recession. "CNN) -- Nearly three-quarters of all Americans think the economy is in a recession, according to a national poll released Monday." What is there to do to help our economy? If there are so many people in this country that believe our country needs help, why is it taking so long to get things back on track? I believe we are in a mild recession right now but the only way were going right now is further worse. The economy right now is not as worse as the time period of the Great Depression but with all the media explaining to our country that were doing poorly, its hard to improve the economy.

NHL Seeding Response

In response to Evan's response on the NHL seeding, I agree with his statement that division games should mean a lot and that the NHL should not change anything with how the playoffs seeds are determined. Right now there are teams that are ranked lower than other teams except these lower ranked teams have more points than the higher ranked teams. This is because when a team wins their division they are automatically placed in the top three. This kills all the divisional rivalries. This could possibly be one of the reasons that hockey does not contain some of the major rivalries like baseball.

Probation affecting Studying Abroad

I disagree with the rule or the comparison to probation and not being able to study abroad. I believe that if there are alot of people who want to study abroad, there are more things to look at rather than just your probation record. I think that your GPA, semesters taken, and class participation are much more important than your probation record. Here at Ithaca College I have found myself on probation and this kills my chances of studying abroad. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and this kills my chance of going to say Australia. If you think about it some of the things that we do here are illegal while those same things are legal over seas. I dont think that is right because if I was to go to Australia I could drink there legally. If I drank here my probation would get extended. I believe that you shouldnt look at probation records as one of the application checklists.

Facebook response

In response to Josh's ideas about facebook, I completely agree. I dont think kids our age should have to worry about anything we do or say on the internet to our friends. Some of my friends' parents have a facebook and sometimes I am hesitant about what I say because I think about the consequences. My buddy's parents could easily have a discussion with my parents about somethings I did over the weekend, or some things I said on the internet. I dont hink it is right for us to hesitate away from our ideas just so we can protect our image. I have heard plenty of college stories from my parents and other adults and I thought that they didnt have facebook to ruin their secrets. They didnt have a web site that allows parents, coaches, teachers to log on and see what you are really up to. I believe that we should be able to speak freely on facebook and not worry about anything.

In Response to IC Work Order

In response to Cory's post earlier on in the semester I agree with his statement that the IC Work Order service is relatively timely and efficient. In my room the door's peep hole was broken. Right after I found out that our door was damaged I filed for a work order and it was only after two days that I came back from class and the door was repaired. This is a big positive trait that I look at when thinking about Ithaca College. It is a great feeling knowing that my money towards this college is being useful towards myself in some way. I have heard other rumors why tuition prices keep rising and when something like this happens it is alwas reassuring for myself. I have discussed this topic with some of my buddies from back home and they have told me that they have bathroom problems often and things that could use repair but their schools dont take care of them like Ithaca College does.

Intramural Floor Hockey

The other day I was thinking about putting together a floor hockey team for something to keep me occupied for the second half of the second semester. When filling out the form I realized that there was a rule that stated you cant have more than two players from the club Ice Hockey team on one team. At first I thought why would they make it a rule? Would the teams be that unfair if there were three or four club members on one squad for Intramural Floor Hockey? I was talking to a buddy of mine and he was telling me that he is on an intramural dodgeball team and there were many teams that just over powered everyone else. I dont see why you cant have two or more hockey players on a floor hockey team when there are unlimited baseball players for dodgeball, or basketball players for basketball. The game of dodgeball would be completely unfair if there was a team full of baseball players. This is why I think it is unfair for them to put a limit on the amount of hockey players on a floor hockey team.

Ban JuicyCampus.com?

I recently came across this article that describes a web site called JuicyCampus.com that ridicules and starts rumors about students at that specific college. This is a web site that is completely made up by students and now after offending other students on this web site there is a lot of people who want the site banned. A student who attends Cornell University received a text message from a buddy to check out this web site, this kid goes to the site and looks up his name and next to it a bunch of sexual rumors and gossip. What if this happened to you? What if you saw your name on this web site and thought to yourself if your younger sister comes across this web site, what would she think? I believe that there should be something that blocks these inappropriate web sites, the freedom of making sites should not be banned but if its going to be a site that is inappropriate and stupid like this one then it shouldn’t be publicly revealed.

In Response to Clemens vs. McNamee Trial

In response to Tyler's blog post I have also noticed this trial being constantly on the screen of the television. I have been back and forth in my mind on who is guilty and who we should trust, still trying to determine my decision. When thinking about this topic it is clear to me that in this world, it is easy to lie. Recently in my life I have had to deal with the topic of lying and it has became more clear to me how easy it is to lie. One of these two men, Roger or McNamee, is not telling the truth and the media has proved to us as the audience that it is very difficult to determine if someone is lying or not. I also believe that in some way baseball as a sport has lost some of its credibility. After the report on how many people in the professional baseball league had taken steroids who knows what awards and other things are still credible.

Response to Obesity being a Choice

In response to Rebecca's idea on Obesity being a choice, I agree with many things she comes up with in her post. When narrowing down my decision if I think obesity is a choice, I agree but disagree at the same time. As Rebecca mentioned in her post sometimes there are families where all of the members of the household is obese. Does a young child really have control or a choice on what his mother puts down on the table? Does this child have the capability or even the knowledge to ask his mom to replace french fries with a salad? Some people also do not have the money to join a gym so that they can exercise regularly. This puts them at a disadvantage in losing weight and also in becoming obese. However there are many things that makes me agree to the statement that obesity being a choice. Many of the times when people notice they are obese or gaining weight is when they are not exercising and they are being lazy. When the word lazy comes up, my decision is clear to agree that obesity is a choice, if people are going to be lazy in this country then they deserve to be obese.

Hockey Players' Safety

Recently it has been brought to my attention that many of the hockey players that participate in the NHL do not wear mouth guards, neck guards, face masks or even plastic pieces that protect your ears. Yesterday a player on the Florida Panthers suffered a frightening accident, he was knocked to the ice and unfortunately one of his teammates skated too close to his neck and accidentally severed this player's neck. After this incident occurred I read more about Richard Zednik's condition, I learned that he went through a life saving surgery. This story brings to my attention that players in the NHL do not wear certain equipment that can help protect them. I know that it is the players' decision to wear certain equipment but I just don't really see the point of not wearing a face mask or neck guard. I play hockey and to be honest I dont wear a neck guard or a mouth guard, but after learning about the possibilities that can happen to me when I am out there on the ice I know I am going to think twice when putting on my gear in the locker room.

How can we stop shootings?

When thinking about what I was going to write for this blog I came across an article that describes a shooting that occurred killing five people. It makes me upset and angry that there really isnt any way to stop these shootings. I believe that there needs to be stricter laws prohibiting the purchase of some guns. There really isnt a way to stop people carrying guns around towns or cities because then we would have to search everyone, it needs to start with not allowing some people to purchase guns. When people are selling guns sometimes they dont realize it but they are really selling the gun to someone that is going to do a violent and stupid act. There needs to be some way that we can reduce the number of shootings every year.

Not Fair

I do not think that the students that live on campus here at Ithaca College should have to pay for their own internet and cable. It does not seem fair to me when I think to myself that after this four years of school, I am going to be in serious debt. When I am paying $40,000 every year to attend this college, I do not think it is right for the college to not supply internet and cable. There are many colleges in this country that provide free internet and free cable. This argument is a proposal and it is something I would like to propose to the body of this school. I know that there are many people on this campus who agree with this claim I am stating, many students would be eager to help and state their beliefs. Overall I do not think it is right for the school to lack the ability to provide cable and a solid Internet connection.
